The Maine Coon originates from America as a working cat. They are a large sized breed with a smooth shaggy coat. The cat also has large features such as paws, ears, eyes and tail. Many people believe that the breed has evolved from breeding between Raccoons and domestic cats. But there are also different theories to how the breed did evolve.

Maine Coons have a large variety of colours and patterns through the breed, ranging from silver to red and tabby to shades. There are more than 60 different colours and patterns recognised by the Maine Coon Cat Club.
